چکیده

Grasping power (GP) by means of functional electrical stimulation (FES) was measured in a patient with C6 complete tetraplegia. This was compared with GP by means of the dynamic tenodesis effect, the flexor hinge splint and the GP of normal female. Palmar grasp strength by means of FES was approximately 16 % of the control group and 2.4 times greater than the flexor hinge splint. Lateral grasp strength by FES was approximately 13 % of the control group. Our results suggest that FES is more effective than the flexor hinge splint in increasing the GP of tetraplegic patients, and that stronger and a stable GP, which is not affected by wrist position, makes FES practical for improving activities of daily living (ADL).

Comparing the Effect of Functional Electrical Stimulation and Functional Exercise Therapy on the Treatment of Ischemic Stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background and Objectives: Stroke is considered as the third common cause of disability and mortality in the world. Therefore, it is important to find a new treatment for increasing the rehabilitation of disability after stroke. The aim of this study was comparing the effect of functional electrical stimulation (FES) and functional exercise therapy (FET) on the treatment of ischemic stroke (IS)...

Earthquake Evaluation of the Non Structural Elements in a Thermal Power Plant

Non Structural elements such as mechanical, electrical and architectural elements always posses serious damage potentials during earthquakes. Degree of damage imposed by the non structural elements is not usually measured by the physical damages caused, but more so by the amount of the economical and functional disruptions created in a built environment. This phenomenon is enhanced where the fu...

Risk Analysis and Economic Load Dispatch Evaluation of Network with High Wind Power Penetration

This study based on investigation for integration wind power into conventional power system with its impact on fossil fuel generators and their generation management. Wind power as environmental friendly energy source can reduce the operational cost of the system due to considering no cost for energizing the generator in comparing with fossil fuel generators. However due to unpredictable nature...

Dynamic Harmonic Modeling and Analysis of VSC-HVDC Systems

Harmonics have become an important issue in modern power systems. The widespread penetration of non-linear loads to emerging power systems has turned power quality analysis into an important operation issue under both steady state and transient conditions. This paper employs a Dynamic Harmonic Domain (DHD) based framework for dynamic harmonic analysis of VSC-HVDC systems. These systems are wide...
